I wrote my first stories at a little red desk, the very day after I had proclaimed loudly and with much sobbing, "I will NEVER want to be an author!"

I still have that little red school desk, and I still have those stories--"The Candy Store," "The Tooth Fairy," and "The Lost Puppy." They were terrible.

I have since graduated to a little writing room, complete with bookshelves and old typewriters, and sometimes my writing is still terrible. At least now I have a bundle of red pencils for fixing all my mistakes.

My happiest memories are sailing with my Dad (when I was very small) and tromping all over the Colorado Rockies (when I was not-so-small) and meeting my husband backstage in rehearsals for Othello.

I now live in South Carolina with my crazy husband Benjamin, baby son Milton, and very soft cat Émile. We drink tea, read poetry, write books, and wander around the Appalachian Mountains.

I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, hold a B.A. in Creative Writing, and currently serve as Senior Editor for Portland Studios , an illustration, animation, and publishing studio in Greenville.
